How your thyroid consultation works
- Step 1
Book and answer a few questions
Book online with your name, date of birth and contact details, and answer a short set of questions about your symptoms and history. Your clinician reads these before your appointment.
- Step 2
Speak to a clinician
Clare or Renae talks through your symptoms, your medical and family history, and any medicines or supplements you take. They explain which thyroid tests make sense for you and how they're arranged.
- Step 3
Results explained, plan agreed
Your clinician explains your results properly: what's in range, what isn't, and what it means for you. If you decide to go ahead with a plan, any costs are explained before anything is arranged.
- Step 4
Monitoring and reviews
Thyroid care needs regular check-ins and repeat blood tests, especially when starting or changing treatment. We review you regularly and get in touch when your next review or blood test is due.

Honest FAQs
How much does a private thyroid test cost?
Costs for your consultation and any tests are confirmed at your consultation, before anything is arranged. You'll never be charged for something you haven't agreed to.
Is it online or in person?
Your consultation and reviews are online. Your clinician will explain how and where your thyroid blood test is done.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book directly, without a referral from your NHS GP.
Do I need to fast before a thyroid blood test?
Usually not. Your clinician will tell you if there's anything to do beforehand, such as pausing biotin supplements or timing your test around any thyroid treatment you already take.
What does a thyroid blood test check?
Usually TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) and free T4. Free T3 and thyroid antibodies are sometimes checked too, depending on your symptoms and results. Your clinician explains which tests make sense for you.
What's the difference between an underactive and overactive thyroid?
An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) makes too little hormone, which tends to cause tiredness, weight gain and feeling cold. An overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) makes too much, which can cause weight loss, anxiety, a racing heart and feeling hot.
My NHS thyroid test was normal but I still feel unwell. Can you help?
We can talk through your symptoms and your results. Sometimes the thyroid isn't the cause, and other things, such as low iron, vitamin levels, sleep or menopause, are worth looking at. If so, we'll tell you honestly.
Can you help if I'm already on thyroid treatment?
Yes. We can review your symptoms and results, arrange repeat blood tests when they're due, and keep your plan under regular review.
When should I get urgent help?
This service isn't for emergencies. Call 999 if you have chest pain, or a very fast heartbeat with breathlessness or fainting. Get urgent advice from NHS 111 or your GP if you have a swelling in your neck that's growing quickly or making it hard to swallow or breathe.
