Low testosterone can affect energy, mood, sleep and more. We ask a short set of questions before your appointment so your clinician can spend the consultation on you rather than on paperwork.

How it works

How your low testosterone assessment works

  1. Step 1

Book and answer a few questions

Book online with your name, date of birth and contact details, and complete a short clinical questionnaire. Your clinician reads it beforehand, so the consultation goes further.

  2. Step 2

Speak to a men's health clinician

Clare or Renae talks through your symptoms, lifestyle, sleep, medicines and health history, and whether having children matters to you now or in future. They explain whether blood tests are needed and how they're arranged.

  3. Step 3

    Your results and your plan

Your clinician explains your results and your options. If you decide to go ahead with a plan, any costs are explained before anything is arranged. If treatment isn't right for you, we'll say so and suggest what might help instead.

  4. Step 4

    Ongoing monitoring

Whatever your plan, we follow up. If you start any treatment, it needs regular reviews and blood tests, especially in the first year. We review how you feel and whether your plan needs adjusting, and get in touch when your next review or blood test is due.

Honest FAQs

How much does a low testosterone consultation cost?

Costs for your consultation and any blood tests are explained before anything is arranged. You'll never be charged for something you haven't agreed to.

Is the consultation online?

Yes. Your consultation and reviews happen online. Your clinician will explain how and where any blood tests are done.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book directly, without a referral from your NHS GP.

Can I get a testosterone test on the NHS?

Yes. If you have symptoms, your NHS GP can arrange a blood test. Some men choose a private clinic for quicker access or ongoing specialist review. Either way, the test should be taken in the morning and is usually repeated to confirm the result.

Why does the test need to be in the morning?

Testosterone levels are highest in the morning and fall through the day, so a test taken later can look low when it isn't. The test is usually taken before 11am, and a low result is repeated on a different morning to confirm it.

Does it matter if I want children in future?

Yes, so tell your clinician. Some treatments for low testosterone can reduce sperm production, so your plans for children are taken into account when your options are discussed.

What if my testosterone level is normal?

Then treatment for low testosterone isn't the answer, and we'll tell you so. Your clinician will talk through other possible causes of your symptoms, such as sleep, stress, weight or thyroid problems, and suggest next steps.

When should I get urgent help?

This service isn't for emergencies. Call 999 for chest pain, sudden weakness on one side of the body or severe breathlessness. See a GP promptly if you notice a lump in a testicle or swelling in your chest. If you're struggling with your mood, call NHS 111 and choose the mental health option.
